Missio Dei – the Mission of God.
The Latin word missio means the “sending“ of someone with a purpose.
Think about it:
- Who does the sending? God
- Who does He send? His People
- What is His purpose in sending? to share Christ
One scholar asked: Does God have a mission for His church? Or, does God have a church for His mission? Maybe the answer should be “yes!”
We usually think about the church having a mission. He did commission His disciples. But we need to see this is actually God’s mission (to bring worshipers to Himself) and He commissioned His church, to be His vessel, to accomplish His mission.
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us….” (2 Cor. 5:20)
We are sent by Him with a purpose — to accomplish His mission.
It is the Mission of God.
