God, help us to be doers of Your Word and not hearers only (James 1:22)
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works—this person will be blessed in what he does.(James 1:22-25)
Your Word, O Lord, is a like I mirror. I look into Your Word and see what I am really like. In Your Word I see what I need to do—and what I need to stop doing.
I humble myself before You; You have promised You will give grace to the humble.
I need Your grace to do what You say. Responding to You, I will work out* my salvation and let Your Spirit work through me. Speak to my heart Lord — I will follow.
* “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” (See Phil 2:12-13)
