August 13– Laughter turned to Mourning

God, we humble ourselves before You.

Saturday’s events in Charlottesville, VA moved us to change our prayer focus for August 13th.

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

(James 4)

Father, our hearts are broken over the hatred and division in our nation.

We stop to grieve over the sin of racism. We fall on our knees and resist the evil one who is the father of lies, hatred and murder.

We are miserable and mourn and weep over the sin that has foolishly taken human life in Charlottesville, VA.

Father, give us the grace to stand with other believers who are willing to call out this sin.

Give us discernment as we seek to know when to kneel and when (and how) to stand.
