August 22 (Month of Prayer)

God, we pray that our lives would be a light in the world helping others to see you.

“… let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

(Matt. 5:16)

Light of the world, we cry out to You.

At times it feels like the things of this world have eclipsed Your glory. Certainly, many things are used by the evil one in an attempt to stand between us. But You are eternally light—and in You there is no darkness at all. And nothing diminishes Your glory.

We cry out to You.

We cannot generate light on our own. We can only reflect the light that You shine upon us. You are the source.

In creation You spoke and said, “Let there be light.”

In regeneration You spoke into my darkened heart and once again said, “Let there be light!”   (2 Cor. 4:6)

Now You say we are the light of the world.

Use us Lord. Shine through us. Work through us.

May a watching, needy, darkened world see Your light reflected by the way we love and the way we live.
