God, we love others because we know your deep love for us.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
(1 John 4:7-11)
Father, everything I know about real love comes from You. There are a lot of things called “love” that pretend to be love—but You are the author and source of true love.
You chose to love us. You didn’t need us—but You chose to love us. You chose to love me.
As I read this passage I am reminded the only reason I love is because You first loved me. The source of my love is my found in my new birth.
As You live in me today—love through me today.
